About us
When a newborn baby or child is fighting for their life, they need to get expert medical treatment fast. Which is where the Children’s Air Ambulance comes in.
The Children’s Air Ambulance provides a world-class medical transfer service whose specialist facilities are so advanced we can provide intensive care in the air for critically ill babies and children up to the age of 18.
In December 2012, the Children’s Air Ambulance took off. Our service began with one helicopter that completed transfers across the UK, but we wanted to help more children who needed our services at the same time. So, in 2018, we increased our fleet and have invested in two new aircraft that contain enhanced technical equipment and an extra seat for a parent or clinician to travel on board.
Situated at Doncaster and Oxford air bases, these two aircraft can simultaneously attend transfer missions, servicing the whole of Great Britain. Our aircraft contain all of the vital equipment needed to safely transfer our patients to receive the vital care they need, or if they’re too sick to travel, we take the specialist teams and equipment to them.
Nothing is more precious than time and our helicopters complete journeys 4x faster than those taken by road, reducing the risk of further complications and helping to save lives.
